Environmental work is a central part of ESMAs processes, and we have held an ISO 14001 certification since 2006, with an ongoing annual audit conducted by Intertek.

We also hold a silver-level CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) rating through Ecovadis and continue to work in accordance with these guidelines.

We are actively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also optimizing overall resource utilization.

Whenever possible, we prioritize sea and rail transport, but to a large extent, our logistics are determined by customer agreements, as clients have their own transport contracts that we must adhere to.

Our partners continuously report their CO₂ emissions.

We sort our waste at the source and collaborate with Stena Recycling for proper disposal. For our printers, we use a refill system for toner cartridges to minimize waste.

Additionally, ESMA ensures the supply of EUR-approved pallets from China, significantly reducing the need for scrapping sea freight pallets.

Since 2020, we have been gradually replacing our company vehicles with hybrid vehicles. Additionally, we prioritize digital meetings whenever possible to reduce travel-related emissions.

Since 1974, we have utilized district heating to warm our facilities in Spånga. Additionally, in the spring of 2021, we installed a solar panel system that produces approximately 135,000 kWh per year, covering about 40% of our annual electricity consumption.

Where possible, we have replaced lighting with LED solutions, and charging stations for both our own and visitors’ vehicles have been installed, with further expansion planned.

In the fall of 2022, we conducted a comprehensive energy consumption assessment aimed at identifying further energy reduction opportunities.

As the majority of our environmental impact stems from upstream manufacturing at our production units—such as raw materials, production processes, and transportation—we work closely with both our customers and manufacturing partners to develop optimized component solutions and designs that minimize environmental impact.

At the same time, we must consider customer performance requirements for each product/component, as we are ultimately responsible for meeting their specifications.
